For over 30 years, the flagship program Dismas House in Worcester has provided a welcoming home and support for former prisoners looking to turn their lives around. Students are given opportunities for internships in non-profit management and/or live-in positions in the Dismas community. There are simple rules, such as no violence, drugs or alcohol; and there are expectations, such as attendance at dinners, curfews, chores and participating in house meetings and activities. The Dismas House Transitional Program is a progress-oriented curriculum that moves the residents through a series of supportive steps to help them reach their goals.
Dismas House is an approved Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) residential reentry program in Nashville, Tennessee that serves men returning to the community from state correctional facilities and county jails. Dismas House is one of the largest reentry programs of its kind in Tennessee, serving more than 120 men annually. Our goal is to support residents as they navigate the challenging transition from prison back to society, helping them overcome the many barriers to successful reentry.
Studying Social Entrepreneurship led her to measure success through social impact and sustainable change. She began her career working in admissions and recruitment in higher education and local charter schools. She made the transition into reentry services at Project Return, working for their transitional employment social enterprise. There, Audra found her passion of working in reentry, advocating for and empowering our community. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Social Work with plans to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and continue her passion of working with returning citizens. After operating from an 8-bed house for 46 years, Dismas House moved to a new 72-bed campus in 2020. Along with this physical expansion came an intentional re-envisioning, redesign, and diversification of our program offerings with an emphasis on supporting the whole person. We have a seasonal farm stand with produce from our zero energy greenhouse, eggs, candles, and wood products. Dismas has the added benefit of supporting the rehabilitative work of Dismas House, reconnecting former prisoners with society, providing them with a new sense of self-worth and purpose. She was previously working at Atlanta Community Food Bank as a Benefit Coordinator. Autumn graduated from Eckerd College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development with a Global Focus. After graduation, she spent a year working with a sustainable development NGO in Nicaragua as the Volunteer Coordinator. Since then, she has worked with a various community-based nonprofits in Nashville and Atlanta.
